HerdInsights, an Agri-tech company based in Cork today announced that it is ramping up its international expansion after a successful 2018 and expects to increase its workforce over the coming months.  The company is a leading international supplier of smart collars for cows which enables farmers to manage the efficiency of their breeding programs and monitor the health of their herds.  In 2018 the company increased it sales by 300% including a milestone sale of 1,500 collars to a farm in the US.

Brian Mulcahy, CEO, said that HerdInsights really accelerated its international business during the year with the company installing smart collars across 4 different continents across the globe with the US deal capping a great year.  “It can be difficult to grow a business internationally however we have partnered with some leading international agricultural corporations which has really helped us expand into a number of markets” said Brian.  “The US deal is a great reference for our expansion in 2019 we can see that demand for more technology on farm is rapidly increasing”. The company expects to strongly grow its international distributor base in 2019 and has a pipeline of further technology products in development.

Brian believes that the quality of Cork technology talent pool is a positive for tech start-ups in the city and the company is currently recruiting to expand its team of software engineers and data analysts.

Brian expects, the business to continue to grow rapidly as cow herds continue to increase in size and technology gains further traction with farmers looking to improve efficiencies on their farms.  “The market and potential for Agri-tech is huge with the global dairy cow herd estimated at 274m and that is up from 220m in the past 15 years, but to take advantage of such growth demands a quality product and this was further reaffirmed this year when we were delighted to stand amongst some of the biggest leaders in Irish technology as winners at the 2018 Data Science Award it was a fantastic recognition for all our team and certainly capped off a very significant year in our company’s development”
